What does Zach Galifianakis Have Against Long John Silver’s?

In The Hangover 2, the oddball character Alan (played by Zach Galifianakis) cracks deadpan about how a beautiful Thai resort’s seafood is comparable to Long John Silver’s, and how it’s a shame monkeys cannot use Skype.

What’s interesting is that when Galifianakis hosted Saturday Night Live in March, he cracked during his opening monologue that he would be “making an appearance at Long John Silver’s” and “babysitting sisters kids via Skype.” But there’s more. [more]

Galifianakis has a long-running obsession with the Long John Silver’s brand. In a 2010 interview, Variety asked him how his life had changed since the success of the first Hangover film. Galifianakis said, “I get a better table at Long John Silver’s.”

On an early episode of the comedian’s hilarious web series “Between Two Ferns,” Galifianakis says, “I like to go to Long John Silver’s and be shocked at how much the prices are.”

And then in another “Between Two Ferns” episodes, Galifianakis quizzes Sean Penn about going to Long John Silver’s with him and Jack Nicholson.

Galifianakis does a  lot of brand-based humor; see above monolgue and Axe body spray. But just what is it about the seafood chain that Galifianakis finds so funny that he not only works it into so much of his own material, but also, in all likelihood, convinced Hangover producers to throw a joke in the latest film?
