With the slopes open and the season in full swing, we head to Burton.com to check out the latest trends in snowboarding.

Starting small but fierce, Jake Burton helped gain recognition for snowboarding and created a new market in the downhill industry. His dedication and perseverance has made snowboarding and Burton what it is today. As a result Burton is known as cutting

 
edge, always a step above the rest, and at the same time inviting to all. Do these brand values stand up on the web?

No longer just a fringe sport for young fearless skateboarding types, today people of all ages snowboard and Burton.com welcomes hardcore and beginners alike. The site has loads of information for passionate snowboarders and is inviting to people who have never been snowboarding at all. In fact, the top link of one of its sections is Learn to Ride.

 
 
Burton Clearly Burton pays special attention to its site. There are constantly new home page designs. Current news is posted almost daily and scrolls across the top of the "hub," or home page. The rest of the site is just as fresh. As you cruise through the sections, the main look and feel changes, keeping it fresh and funky similar to the graphics on its boards.

Technically, the site functions very well. For the most part it is built in HTML with a few Flash files inserted when added flare is necessary. The site steers clear from using anything with a large download time, allowing lucky ones up in the mountains with slow dial-up connections to log on for the latest news and equipment without missing any slope time. Burton.com also uses the interactive part of the web to its full potential. For example, there is a questionnaire that calculates the right Burton board for you; not to mention surveys, downloads and message boards. Surprisingly, you cannot buy gear online.

With its use of interactive technology and its up-to-date information and imagery, Burton.com has created a true sense of community. Much of the site is dedicated to the culture that surrounds snowboarding. From snow reports to message boards, Burton.com has it all. If nothing else, Burton.com’s sense of community throughout the site reflects the Burton brand of dedication.
