While the economy has left many shops shuttered and other struggling, the New England-based Honey Dew Donuts sees an opportunity to steal market share. Going up against Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks, two brands also currently undergoing revamps, the mini-chain announced its intent to aggressively expand.
So far, the 37-year-old Honey Dew franchise includes 150 stores, primarily based in Massachusetts. In the past five years, only 20 locations have been added to the Honey Dew family, and there is only one corporate-controlled store.
