Remember Myspace? Well, it’s back with a $20 million ad campaign to help relaunch the once-defunct social network.
The brand, which has re-emerged thanks to some financial and emotional backing from Justin Timberlake and the Vanderhook brothers, hopes to lure up-and-coming and established musicians, producers and creatives with its new, completely redesigned platform.
"We really wanted to really represent the people that make this brand," Christian Parkes, head of marketing at Myspace told AdWeek. "Because it's not us in this room—we're the guys behind the scenes. But it's really about the community. The tone and spirit ... it's irreverent, slightly anarchistic, that's the tone and the attitude and the feeling."Continue reading...

The Facebook generation is so over Facebook, according to a new report from the Pew Research Center.
After surveying 802 teens, ages 12 to 17 about their online habits, it turns out that Facebook has become a "social burden." "While Facebook is still deeply integrated in teens’ everyday lives, it is sometimes seen as a utility and an obligation rather than an exciting new platform that teens can claim as their own."
While 94 percent of teens are maintaining their Facebook accounts, more and more continue to migrate to Twitter and Instagram as largely parent-free zones that give them a greater ability to freely express themselves. According to the survey, 11 percent of teens had Instagram accounts, 5 percent have Tumblr accounts and 7 percent have accounts on Myspace.Continue reading...

Myspace is rising from the ashes…again. And if anyone can revive the original top social network, it just might be co-owner Justin Timberlake, with a little help from Facebook.
As the co-star of The Social Network well knows, back in 2005 MySpace (capital 'S') was the most popular social networking site in the world and sold to Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. for $580 million, but as Facebook and Twitter moved into the space, MySpace floundered and News Corp. ended up selling it at a half-a-billion-dollar loss to Specific Media and Timberlake for $35 million in June 2011.
Now it's teasing the next iteration at new.myspace.com and a teaser video that highlights its renewed focus as a social, visual and music hub. The brand overhaul borrows elements from Pinterest, Tumblr and About.me in a full-scale relaunch planned for the fourth quarter. The most striking visual change is a horizontally oriented user interface, coupled with the promise of an even more laser-focus on music and Facebook integration.Continue reading...

Delivering on a promise made by co-owner Justin Timberlake to “bring sexy back to Myspace,” Fox Digital Entertainment and Myspace have announced Let's Big Happy, a seven-episode web series starring Andrew W.K. that debuts on March 28th.
Taco Bell is sponsoring the new web series, which features bands from the chain's Feed the Beat music program which supplies bands with free food while on tour, including performances by Chiddy Bang, We Are Scientists, Math the Band, Generationals, and the Gay Blades.
"The branded entertainment space has evolved over the last few years by doing what is typically labeled as 'organic' integration all the way up to a sponsor wrapping themselves around a program that never mentions their product,” commented Fox Digital Entertainment SVP Matt Glotzer to Billboard.Continue reading...
