Barbie vs. Target x Missoni's Marina: The Duelling Dolls of Fashion's Night Out

Posted by Shirley Brady on September 7, 2011 02:03 PM

Fashion's Night Out revellers can tag along with two dolls with social moxie as they navigate the FNO mayhem tomorrow night. (Who said fashion-lovers are plastic?)

Shoppers/partiers in NYC may catch the Mattel-sponsored Barbie double-decker bus between the stores of five brands (Alexis Bittar, Alice and Olivia, Loomstate Organic, Rogan, and Tracy Reese) as part of a virtual and in-person game dubbed Barbie Loves FNO. (Fans can also play along on Twitter @BarbieStyle.)

Barbie's not the only doll working FNO on September 8th — meet Marina.

"Marina," a 25-foot tall blogging doll (with her own Twitter and Tumblr, and a ginormous iPhone by the looks of it) is promoting the Target x Missoni collection that's being unveiled at FNO with a pop-up shop across the street from Bryant Park, where she can be spotted at tonight's VIP preview.

Racked snapped her unusual styling tool, above, and notes the rest of where she'll be zig-zagging during New York Fashion Week here along with one bonus to stalking her: "She's got free high-speed wifi embedded in her, so wherever she goes, so does the internet. Don't have a smartphone? You can also text her from your mobile at +1-917-409-7437—and she'll text right back." What a doll.

Update: "she'll text right back" all right — see Marina's quick response on Twitter below, plus Barbie's good-natured reply. Also: don't miss Marina's Q&A today with another fashionable character: Stan D'Arde, the Standard Hotels' Tumblin' and bloggin' "SVP of culture & lifestyle."

slim United States says:

What's so wrong about Barbie?
The controversy over Barbie Dolls has inspired the creation of a video graphic novel that tells the story of a Doll that is persecuted and marked for destruction for being a ”bad influence” on the girl that owns her because of her appearance and the “message” that she sends. The story is told from the point of view of the Doll. If you are interested in this issue I think you might want to check it out.
